A fast food chain with a dozen restaurants across English cities is bidding to open its first Glasgow location. Mr T’s, which has outlets in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and elsewhere, has submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council to take over an empty unit at 148 Nelson Street in Tradeston.
Applicant Hassan Shabir has submitted plans for a full refurbishment of the site, which was previously home to Sholeh, a family-run Persian restaurant. The planning documents detail how the property would be fitted with Mr T’s signature yellow interior and exterior. The chain sells burgers, toasts, wraps, pizzas, and more.
Council planning officials are considering the application, with a decision expected by Friday, April 10.
Tradeston is not the most obvious location for a first Glasgow venture, but the area has been changing steadily and the Nelson Street site has the advantage of being available. Whether Glasgow needs another fast food chain is debatable, but the planning application suggests Mr T’s sees enough demand to make the numbers work. If the yellow exterior is as bright as it looks in their English locations, the neighbours will at least have no trouble finding it.
