A former Royal Marines commando and his accomplice have been jailed at the High Court in Stirling after carrying out a robbery at a Co-op food store on Shamrock Street, Dunfermline.

Richard Grant, 39, received a sentence of six years and three months with a three year extension period. Jack Bonner, 26, was sentenced to five years and three months with the same extension. Both men are from Dunfermline.

Terrifying Ordeal for Store Manager

The pair forced the store manager into a back room, tied him face down on the floor, shouted and swore at him, held a knife or screwdriver to his neck and brandished an activated power drill against his body. They stole approximately 2,400 pounds worth of cash, alcohol, cigarettes and vapes, all of which was later recovered.

Witnesses alerted police and Bonner was arrested at the rear of the premises. Grant, who earned his Green Beret with the Royal Marines in 2010, must also serve an additional 283 days from an unexpired previous sentence.

The judge said: “It must have been a terrifying experience for him. More than 18 months later, he describes anxiety at going out in public” and noted the victim now has difficulty attending cinemas or theatres.
