Clydeside Expressway Snarled Up After Morning Crash

Monday morning commuters heading west out of Glasgow were met with the familiar frustration of a partially closed Clydeside Expressway after a crash near the Finnieston Street flyover.

The collision, reported at around 9.30am, reduced the westbound carriageway of the A814 to a single lane. The road links Glasgow with Clydebank, Dumbarton and Helensburgh, which means anyone commuting in that direction was stuck crawling through delays that stretched well into the late morning.

Glasgow City Council urged drivers to approach with caution, which in my experience roughly translates to “find another route if you can.”

No details have been released about the severity of the collision or whether anyone was injured. The Clydeside Expressway has always been one of those roads that feels like it was designed for about half the traffic it actually carries. When anything goes wrong, the knock on effect is felt across Glasgow’s west end within minutes.
