The Centre West entrance at East Kilbride Shopping Centre has been closed to the public as demolition work begins on a major town centre regeneration project.

Shoppers are being directed to use the Plaza entrance instead. The closure marks the start of physical works on a regeneration scheme that has been in planning for several years.

Regeneration Under Way

The demolition of the Centre West section is the first visible stage of what is expected to be a multi-phase project to modernise the heart of one of Scotland’s largest new towns. Like many Scottish town centres, East Kilbride has faced challenges from the shift to online shopping and declining high street footfall.

Signage has been put in place to direct visitors during the transition. The timeline for the full regeneration has not been confirmed, but demolition work is expected to continue over the coming months.
