Home Bargains is set to open its second store in Perth on March 14 at the Highland Gateway Retail Park on Ruthvenfield Road, representing an investment of around £1 million. The discount retailer received unanimous approval from Perth and Kinross Licensing Board for a provisional premises licence, with no objections lodged against the application.

The new store will consolidate units 2, 3, and 4 at the Inveralmond site into one large retail space. Planning permission for the conversion was granted in October 2025. Licensing lawyer Niall Hassard told the board that Home Bargains operates approximately 600 stores across the UK and around 85 in Scotland. The existing Perth store is in St Catherine’s Retail Park, and there is also a branch in Blairgowrie.

Councillors were told that alcohol sales account for roughly two per cent of the total display space, covering beers, ciders, and wines. The board approved the application with mandatory conditions and no additional local restrictions.

Another Home Bargains might not be the most glamorous development Perth has ever seen, but these discount retailers serve a genuine purpose. With the cost of living squeezing household budgets across Scotland, a million pound investment that creates local jobs and offers affordable shopping is nothing to sneer at. The Fair City will take the investment gladly.
