16 April 2014
* SR is taking a short Easter break. There will be
no edition next week. Publication will resume on
Wednesday 30 April.
* Last week’s edition attracted a readership of 25,905.
* Towards the end of last year, the Scottish Review campaigned against an intrusive children’s survey conducted by a Devon-based charity on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council. Although we have failed to prevent this survey being rolled out to other Scottish local authorities, we are pleased to report that the questionnaire has been toned down, and the more objectionable questions removed, at the insistence of the Scottish Government. Spokespersons for the parents have thanked the Scottish Review for our work in influencing the outcome. We’ll be returning to this story after the break.
* Kenneth Roy’s life of post-war Scotland, ‘The Invisible Spirit’, is no longer available direct from us, but Amazon continues to hold a few dozen copies. If you want to check out the Amazon reviews or buy the book, click here
* The Scottish Review, an independent, non-partisan publication, must hold its own in a Scotland of aggressively polarised opinions. Please support SR’s journalism through a challenging year for the magazine. Click here to donate £30 (or more) and become a Friend.
* Our free monthly e-book – the March edition – is online now. Click here
