The UK government has chartered a repatriation flight from Oman for British nationals seeking to escape the Middle East amid the escalating conflict in the region. Scottish residents are among those affected.
Edinburgh Live reported that Michelle Hamilton, a Scottish mother, was trapped in Dubai with her eight year old twin daughters during a stopover on their way to New Zealand. She described hearing sirens and “constant banging” as strikes hit targets in the United Arab Emirates.
Widespread Flight Disruptions
Major airlines including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad have suspended or severely reduced services across the region. Qatar Airways has indicated it will remain grounded until at least Friday, leaving tens of thousands of passengers without confirmed travel.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has advised against all travel to Iran, Iraq and parts of the wider region, and is working to arrange additional repatriation capacity from the Gulf.
