Sir Keir Starmer faces a testing session in the House of Commons amid a transatlantic dispute over Britain’s response to the Iran conflict. Donald Trump used remarks on Tuesday to criticise the Prime Minister, reportedly drawing an unflattering comparison with Winston Churchill.

Starmer has so far limited Britain’s direct military involvement, authorising the deployment of HMS Dragon, a Type 45 air defence destroyer, to the region following the attack on RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. He has resisted calls to commit offensive assets or join US and Israeli operations directly.

Pressure from Multiple Directions

Conservative MPs have pushed for greater military cooperation with the United States, while Labour backbenchers have expressed unease about being drawn into another Middle East conflict. The SNP has called for a full parliamentary debate on UK involvement before any further commitments are made.

Scottish MPs across parties are also expected to raise economic consequences, including soaring energy prices, disrupted trade routes and the impact on Scottish businesses. The Spring Statement delivered by Chancellor Rachel Reeves last week made no specific provision for economic fallout from the conflict.
