An investigation has been launched after two vehicles were deliberately set alight on Mulberry Way in East Kilbride in the early hours of Saturday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.50am after a Volkswagen Golf was torched, with the fire spreading to a nearby Hyundai i20.

There were no reports of injuries, which is about the only positive to take from an incident that will have terrified residents on the quiet residential street. Waking up to find cars ablaze outside your home is not something anyone should have to deal with.

Detective Constable Josh Speirs said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the fire to contact us. We’d also ask anyone with private CCTV of Mulberry Way in the early hours of Saturday morning to come forward.”

Deliberate fire raising remains a persistent problem across the central belt. Whether this was targeted at the vehicle owner or simply mindless destruction is for Police Scotland to determine. Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0153 of Saturday, February 21, 2026. Crimestoppers can be reached anonymously on 0800 555 111.
