Kiran Buchanan launched ScottishReview.net in late 2019 after spending nearly a decade as an addiction counsellor in Glasgow's east end. Working with clients struggling with gambling addiction, she repeatedly encountered the same frustrating pattern: people genuinely trying to self-exclude from online casinos would find themselves back at the tables within days, sometimes hours, due to loopholes in operator systems or ineffective cross-platform blocking.
What started as informal notes shared between colleagues became a growing database of which exclusion methods actually worked — and which were essentially meaningless. Kiran realised that while the UKGC had good intentions with self-exclusion requirements, the real-world implementation was patchy at best. Players needed honest, experience-based guidance from people who understood both the technical side and the human cost.
The forum she built reflects her counselling background: no judgment, practical solutions, and genuine community support. Members share which operators honour exclusions properly, which third-party tools actually function, and how to navigate the bureaucracy when systems fail. Kiran still practices part-time in Glasgow while moderating discussions that help hundreds of people across Britain take back control of their gambling habits.
