“We were alerted at 10.17am on Monday, 23 February to reports of a building on fire at High Street, Dunbar. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the roof of a building. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Police Scotland also confirmed their presence and the timeline of events, noting the initial report of the fire reached them at 10.40am on the Monday. They communicated the necessary public safety measures.

“High Street in Dunbar is closed between West Port and Abbey Road due to a report of a fire at a premises, which we received at 10.40am on Monday, 23 February, 2026. Emergency services are in attendance and the public is asked to avoid the area.”

The visible presence of multiple fire appliances and police officers managing the cordon underscored the scale of the incident on the busy East Lothian thoroughfare. One local resident reported that the Dunbar Community Bakery was evacuated as the fire unfolded. Following the successful extinguishing of the fire and a thorough safety check of the premises, all emergency personnel departed. The temporary road closure was subsequently lifted, allowing normal access to the High Street to resume.
