Just noticed Betfair pulled all markets for tonight's Partick Thistle vs Airdrieonians match at 4:45pm - that's 3 hours and 15 minutes before the 8pm kick-off. Usually they keep markets open until about 7pm for Championship games.

Same thing happened Saturday with the Morton vs Queen's Park fixture - markets closed at 2:30pm for a 5:45pm start. That's nearly 3.5 hours early.

Anyone else seeing this pattern? Checked with a mate who uses the exchange regularly and he's noticed it across 4 Scottish Championship matches this past week. The Premiership games still seem to follow the normal 1-hour closure window.

Is this a new policy or just technical issues? Frustrating when you're trying to get on late team news or weather-related value.

It's deliberate. Betfair's cutting liquidity on lower-tier Scottish markets because the volume doesn't justify keeping traders active for the full window. They're probably losing money on the Championship games when you factor in operational costs.

Typical corporate move - squeeze the punters when they think nobody's watching. The Premiership gets preferential treatment because that's where the serious money flows.

I've been tracking this systematically since early October. The average closure time has shifted from 67 minutes before kick-off to 197 minutes across 14 Championship fixtures I monitored. That's a massive operational change.

The mathematical impact is significant - late money often moves lines by 0.15-0.25 points on Championship totals, and that value window is now completely eliminated. You're essentially betting on stale information from the morning team sheets.

What's interesting is that MyStake is keeping their Scottish Championship markets open much closer to kick-off, usually within 45 minutes. Their liquidity isn't as deep as Betfair's exchange, but at least you can react to late developments like weather changes or injury updates from the warm-ups.

Not surprised mate. I was trying to get on the Dundee United vs Raith Rovers over 2.5 goals last Friday after hearing their main striker was definitely starting (he'd been doubtful all week). Market had already closed at 4:15pm for a 7:45pm game.

Ended up placing it at Donbet instead - they kept the line open until about 7:20pm and I got better odds anyway (2.15 vs Betfair's morning price of 1.95). Game finished 3-1 so worked out, but it's annoying when you've built your strategy around late Betfair value.

The Championship is becoming a nightmare for in-play preparation. Half the edge in lower league football comes from late team news and pitch conditions, especially this time of year when weather can completely change how a match plays out.

Where's the official communication about this change? I've searched Betfair's terms and conditions updates and found nothing about modified closure times for Scottish Championship markets.

If they're implementing new policies without proper disclosure, that's a transparency issue. Punters deserve to know operational changes that affect betting windows, especially when it impacts strategy.

Honestly, this might be a blessing in disguise. Shorter betting windows mean less opportunity for impulsive late bets based on incomplete information. I've seen too many punters chase losses by jumping on last-minute odds movements without proper analysis.

The Championship is unpredictable enough without adding the pressure of split-second decisions right before matches. Maybe focus on earlier research and stick to your morning selections.

Wait, so this affects all Scottish Championship games or just certain ones? I'm new to football betting and was planning to start with lower league matches because I thought they'd be easier to predict.

Should I be looking at different operators for Championship bets, or is this happening everywhere? Don't want to get caught out by markets closing when I'm not expecting it.

@aberdeenasker - it's hitting all Championship matches, not just select ones. Checked Saturday's Raith vs Queen's Park and Morton vs Ayr, both markets closed at the 3-hour mark instead of the usual 60 minutes.

This isn't some grand strategy to protect punters from themselves. Betfair's cutting operational costs by reducing the window they need to monitor for late team news and suspicious betting patterns. Less staff hours watching markets = higher profit margins. They're packaging it as a policy change but it's just cost-cutting dressed up as responsible gambling.

If you're serious about Championship betting, look at the smaller books that still offer proper closing times. The big operators are systematically making lower league football less attractive to bet on.
