Blackjack side bets at Tenobet — value play or tilt trap?

Blackjack side bet thread for the strategy folks. Tenobet's blackjack offering (powered mostly by Evolution and a smaller Pragmatic Play live dealer tab) has the standard side bets — 21+3, Perfect Pairs, Bust It, Lucky Ladies on select tables. RTPs across the side bets sit between 88-96% depending on the variant.

Question for the thread: at low stakes (£1-2 per side bet on a £20 main hand), are these worth playing for entertainment value, or are they pure burn? My personal data over the last 3 months on Tenobet: 247 hands of blackjack with £1.50 21+3 side bet on each, net result -£68 on the side bets alone (-£0.27 per hand average, vs theoretical -£0.06 at 96% RTP).

My loss is well above the theoretical because I had a 79-hand stretch with zero qualifying 21+3 hands (statistically improbable but apparently within variance for that sample size). Are side bets worth the volatility cost for the entertainment factor of a 25:1 or 100:1 payout possibility?

Variance is the killer on side bets. 21+3 has approximately a 6% hit rate for any qualifying combination on a standard 6-deck shoe. In a sample of 247 hands you'd expect 14-15 hits — getting 0-3 hits across 79 consecutive hands is unlikely but not anomalous. The math doesn't make me feel better about the variance, but it does confirm Tenobet isn't running a rigged shoe.

Personal rule: side bets are entertainment overlay, not bankroll. £1 max regardless of main hand size.

Reframe: side bets are about expected value of the entertainment + the dopamine spikes when a 25:1 hits, not about long-run EV. If you can afford to lose the stake every hand without it affecting your main hand strategy, they're fine. If you start chasing side bet losses with bigger main hand bets, that's the tilt trap.

I cap side bets at 5% of my main hand stake. So £25 main hand = £1.25 side. Keeps the volatility manageable.
