Been grinding both Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead at £0.20 spins for the past month, tracking my sessions properly for once. Book of Dead gave me 3 bonus rounds in 847 spins with a biggest hit of £18.40, while Legacy managed 5 bonuses in 921 spins but highest was only £12.60.

Both are supposedly 96.21% RTP but Legacy feels way more volatile - longer dead spins between anything decent. Book seems to drip feed smaller wins more consistently. Anyone else notice this pattern or am I just hitting bad variance on Legacy?

My tracking so far:

  • Book of Dead: £169.40 wagered, £142.80 returned (84.3%)
  • Legacy of Dead: £184.20 wagered, £138.90 returned (75.4%)

Sample size isn't massive but the difference feels significant. Wondering if I should stick to Book or keep testing Legacy.

Both are the same bloody game with different skins mate. Play'n GO just reskinned Book of Dead and called it Legacy - same maths, same bonus mechanics, same everything except the Egyptian theme swapped for some generic adventure nonsense. Your variance difference is pure coincidence over 1,800 spins.

I've been tracking both for about six months now and honestly the patterns shift constantly. Had a brilliant run on Legacy back in October - hit three £40+ bonuses in one evening session, all from that expanding symbol mechanic when you get the explorer on reels 1, 3 and 5. But then November was absolutely brutal, went through £80 without a single bonus over 10p.

Book of Dead has been more consistent for me but the bonus potential feels capped. Rarely see anything over £25 even when Rich Wilde fills the screen. I've started mixing both into my sessions at Donbet since they run both games and their bonus buy feature lets me test the mechanics more systematically. The RTP difference you're seeing will level out over time - 1,800 spins is nothing in slot terms. Keep the tracking going for another month and you'll probably see them converge closer to that 96.21% mark.

One thing I have noticed though - Legacy seems to have longer dry spells but bigger potential when it hits. Book gives more frequent smaller wins but rarely explodes properly.

Your sample sizes are too small to draw meaningful conclusions about RTP differences. At 1,800 combined spins you're still well within normal variance ranges for high-volatility slots. The theoretical RTP of 96.21% only becomes apparent over hundreds of thousands of spins.

That said, the hit frequency on Legacy does seem lower in my experience - probably around 22% versus Book's 24%. The trade-off is slightly higher maximum win potential on Legacy due to the expanded symbol mechanics. If you're playing £0.20 stakes for entertainment rather than profit, Book of Dead's more frequent small wins will extend your playtime better.

Worked the floor when both these games launched and watched thousands of sessions. The maths are identical but the perception differs because of win distribution patterns. Legacy front-loads its volatility - you'll get longer dead streaks followed by bigger hits. Book spreads the same RTP more evenly with frequent small wins keeping players engaged longer.

From a casino perspective, Legacy generates higher session variance which some operators prefer because it creates bigger winner stories (and bigger losers). Both games use the same random number generator principles but the symbol weighting creates different playing experiences. Your 75.4% return on Legacy over 921 spins isn't unusual - I've seen players hit 60% or 140% over similar sample sizes.

Been running similar tests across multiple sites and your Legacy results match what I'm seeing. The game definitely runs colder between bonuses but compensates with occasional massive hits. Hit a £127 bonus on Legacy last week at £0.50 stakes when the explorer expanded across all reels.

If you want more consistent returns at low stakes, try Slottio - they've got both games plus some exclusive Play'n GO variants with better base game hit rates. Their Book of Dead seems to trigger bonuses more frequently than most sites I've tested.

This is really helpful data - I've been wondering which one to focus on for my £20 weekly budget. Based on your tracking, Book of Dead seems safer for smaller bankrolls since you get more frequent wins to keep the balance alive longer. The 84.3% return rate over nearly 850 spins gives me more confidence than Legacy's 75.4%.

Quick question though - are you tracking these on the same site or different operators? Sometimes the same game can feel different across platforms even though the RTP should be identical.

That £127 hit at £0.50 stakes on Legacy confirms the volatility math - you're looking at a 254x multiplier which aligns with Legacy's higher ceiling compared to Book's 200x cap. The key difference isn't just perception, it's the actual distribution curve.

I've been tracking both games at £0.20 for 3 months now and the standard deviation on Legacy runs about 18% higher. Book gives you more frequent 15-30x hits to maintain balance, while Legacy clusters its payouts into those occasional massive spikes. For a £20 weekly budget, Book's smoother variance definitely extends session time - you'll typically get 40-60 more spins before hitting the rail.

The 84.3% return rate over 850 spins actually suggests you hit below the theoretical during your tracking period, which happens more often with Book due to its tighter distribution. Legacy would show wider swings in that sample size.

That 254x multiplier on Legacy at £0.50 stakes sounds impressive until you work out the frequency. £127 from a £0.50 bet means you need to hit that bonus roughly every 254 spins just to break even at 100% RTP. The math doesn't add up when you're claiming Legacy runs "colder between bonuses" - if it's hitting less frequently than every 254 spins, you're bleeding money faster than Book of Dead despite the higher ceiling.

I've been tracking both games at £0.20 stakes for six months and Legacy's bonus frequency is closer to every 380-420 spins in my experience. Book of Dead hits bonus rounds every 180-220 spins but caps at lower multipliers. The question isn't which has the higher ceiling - it's which bleeds your £20 weekly budget slower while you wait for that big hit that may never come.

The 254x multiplier frequency claim doesn't match what I've tracked at Legacy over 1,200 spins at £0.20. You're right that 254 spins to break even sounds optimistic, but my data shows the bonus trigger rate sits closer to every 180-220 spins, not 254. The variance comes from bonus quality - Legacy's expanding symbols can dead-spin through 10 rounds at 2x-8x while Book rarely goes below 15x once you're in.

More telling is the base game bleed rate. Legacy burns through balance 23% faster between bonuses because the hit frequency drops from Book's 22.9% to roughly 18.1%. At £20 weekly budgets that difference matters - you need the bonus frequency to compensate for the dead stretches, and Legacy's 180-spin average barely covers it.
