Spotted something odd during my Friday night session at Genting Glasgow. The Evolution Gaming blackjack tables are paying 7:1 on Perfect Pairs side bets instead of the standard 8:1. Noticed this across three different tables between 9pm and 11:30pm.

The dealers confirmed it's a recent change but couldn't give me the exact date it started. One mentioned it might be a "house adjustment" but that seems like a significant edge increase for a side bet that already carries a hefty house advantage.

Standard Perfect Pairs Payouts

Mixed pair: 6:1
Coloured pair: 12:1
Perfect pair: 25:1

But they've dropped the mixed pair from 6:1 to 5:1 and perfect pair from 25:1 to 20:1 as well. Anyone else noticed similar changes at other venues or online Evolution tables?

That's a proper rip-off. Perfect Pairs already has a house edge around 4.1% with standard payouts. Dropping mixed pairs to 5:1 pushes that up to nearly 6%. Genting's taking the piss here.

Avoid those side bets completely. The main blackjack game still pays fair odds but anything extra is just feeding their margins now.

I ran the maths on this change and it's worse than glasgowgrinder mentioned. With mixed pairs at 5:1 instead of 6:1, the house edge jumps from 4.14% to 6.39% - that's a massive 2.25 percentage point increase.

For perfect pairs dropping from 25:1 to 20:1, you're looking at the edge moving from 4.14% to 5.98%. These aren't minor adjustments - they're fundamental shifts that make already poor bets absolutely terrible.

The coloured pair staying at 12:1 is the only saving grace, but even then the overall side bet becomes unplayable. I've been tracking Winstler and their Evolution tables still show standard payouts, so this might be venue-specific rather than Evolution pushing changes across all operators.

Stick to basic strategy on the main game and ignore the side bets entirely now.

Checked my usual online spots after reading this. The Evolution tables at most UK operators are still showing 6:1 for mixed pairs and 25:1 for perfect pairs. This looks like Genting making their own adjustments rather than Evolution changing the base game.

Land-based venues have more flexibility with side bet payouts since they're not as tightly regulated as the main games. Still feels sneaky though - they should have clear signage about the changes.

This is exactly why I avoid side bets completely. Even with standard payouts, Perfect Pairs is designed to drain your bankroll faster than the main blackjack game. Now with worse odds, it's financial suicide.

Focus on basic strategy blackjack where the house edge sits around 0.5% with proper play. These side bets are pure casino profit machines that prey on excitement over mathematics.

Had a similar experience last month at Grosvenor Edinburgh where they quietly changed their Three Card Poker side bet payouts. No announcement, just suddenly worse odds when I sat down for my usual session.

The frustrating part is these changes often happen without proper notice to players. I've started checking Donbet more often since their live Evolution tables clearly display all payout structures before you join, and they haven't made any sneaky adjustments like the land-based venues seem to be doing.

Always worth double-checking the posted odds before placing any side bets, especially at physical casinos where they have more freedom to adjust terms.

Need proof of these payout changes beyond word of mouth. Did anyone get photos of the table limits and payout cards? Casinos are required to display this information clearly.

If Genting made these changes without proper notification periods, that's potentially a regulatory issue. The Gambling Commission requires clear disclosure of odds changes, especially on games where players might have established expectations.

Document everything next time you're there.
