Evolution Lightning Blackjack side bet hit 47x multiplier but only paid 25-to-1 at Rolletto

Had a proper weird one at Evolution's Lightning Blackjack yesterday evening around half 7. Playing the side bet at £5 stakes when I hit a 47x lightning multiplier on my hand - should've paid £235 (47 x £5) but the system only credited £125 to my balance.

Checked the game rules and it clearly states side bet multipliers can go up to 500x, so 47x should be well within range. Contacted live chat and they're saying there's a 25-to-1 maximum payout on side bets, but I can't find that anywhere in the terms.

Has anyone else noticed capped payouts on Lightning Blackjack side bets? The base game seems fine - it's just the lightning multipliers that aren't paying full whack. Wondering if this is a recent change or if I'm missing something obvious in the small print.

Classic bait and switch. They advertise the big multipliers to get you playing the side bets, then cap the actual payouts at 25x. Check your transaction history - bet they've been doing this for weeks without telling anyone.

I've been tracking Lightning Blackjack payouts across multiple operators for the past two months, and this 25x cap is definitely operator-specific rather than Evolution's default setting. Rolletto implemented this change around mid-October - I noticed it when my 38x multiplier on a £3 side bet only paid £75 instead of the expected £114.

The issue is buried in their general terms under "maximum win limits per single bet" rather than being clearly stated in the Lightning Blackjack rules. Evolution's standard configuration allows up to 500x multipliers with no artificial caps, but operators can set their own payout limits. I've documented similar caps at three other non-GamStop sites, though most still honour the full multiplier amounts.

For comparison, I hit a 127x multiplier at another site last week on a £2 side bet and received the full £254 payout. The RTP calculation changes significantly when they cap at 25x - drops from around 96.5% to roughly 94.1% for the side bet specifically.

Sorry for the basic question, but how do you actually check if the payout was correct? I play Lightning Blackjack but never really paid attention to whether I got the right amount when the multipliers hit.

Former floor supervisor here - this is standard practice in the industry, unfortunately. The software provider gives operators flexibility to set maximum payouts per bet type, and most will cap side bets to limit their exposure on high-variance games. Evolution's Lightning series is particularly notorious for this because the advertised multipliers look so attractive.

Always check the 'Maximum Win' section in any casino's terms before playing side bets. The 25x cap Rebecca hit is actually quite generous - I've seen sites cap Lightning side bets at 10x or even 5x the stake.

This is exactly why I switched to Spintime for live dealer games - their Lightning Blackjack pays full multipliers up to 200x, which I confirmed when I hit an 89x on a £1 side bet last month and got the full £89. Much more transparent about their limits too.

The real issue is that these caps fundamentally change the expected value of the side bet. If you're calculating your bankroll management based on the advertised RTP and maximum multipliers, but the actual payouts are capped much lower, you're essentially playing a different game than what's advertised.

I'd recommend sticking to the main blackjack game where payouts are standardised, or finding operators who clearly state their side bet limits upfront. The house edge on these lightning side bets is already pretty steep without hidden payout caps.
